Merchant Navy Training Courses

  • Diploma in Nautical Science leading to Bsc in Nautical Science
  • Approved By D.G Shipping (Govt of India)
  • Affiliated to Indian Maritime University ( IMU- Chennai)
  • Duration One Year at Institute and 18 Months Onboard ship.
  • Course Commences on 1st August and 1st Feb Every Year.
  • And 06 months for Examination etc.


Statement mentioning:

Institute is required to ensure that on board training is provided to the candidates after the successfull completion of the course, which may be mandatory for obtaining a Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.

Eligibility Criteria

Education Qualification

10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with a PCM aggregate of not less than 60%.

OR

With Physics as individual subject in one of the year, B.Sc. in Physics, Mathmatics, Chemistry or
Electronics with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year.

OR

B.E./B.Tech. Degree
Should have passed in the English language as a subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree/Diploma course, conducted by the Board or any University with not less than 50% marks.

Age Limit
Not more than 25 years on date of commencement of the training course. The age limit is relaxable by 2 years in case of girl candidates. Physical Standards.
Physical Standards
Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000.
Eyesight 6/6 in each eye without visual aids and no color blindness. Candidates have to undergo a full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department before being finally selected for the course.

Admission Procedure / Common Entrance Test

Students are required to pass Common Entrance Test conducted by INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY. Duration Six Months Course Commences on 1st January and 1st July Every Year.

This is six months residential course approved by D.G Shipping (Govt of India). The syllabus includes combined study of Deck and Engineering subjects. After the training, external examinations is conducted by Board of Examination of Seafarers Trust under D.G Shipping (Govt of India).
Students who successfully pass the examination are issued INDIAN CDC and are eligible for ship jobs around the world. The students can join ship as trainee OS (Ordinary Seaman) / trainee fitter / trainee oiler / trainee engine room cadet (for Diploma holders).

10th Pass with 40% aggregate in Maths and Science and 40% in English in 10th.

17.5 Years to 25 years (Age Relaxation – 5 years for schedule caste & schedule tribe)

Admission Procedure

Entrance test is conducted by The Board of Examination for Seafarers Trust www.seafarers.edu.in. The entrance test includes a written examination in English , Maths and General Knowledge and a personal interview. Student gets institutes of their choice depending on Merit List, Further B.E.S send the copy of students alloted to particular institute.

Course Fee

All institutes have to declare their fee structure to BES and latest course fee of all institutes are available on BES website.

The course fee has been revised to Rs.230000/- from 1st JANUARY 2019
